Hmmm…if she is so popular, where are all the Hillary bumper stickers?

August 21, 2007 at 2:42 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , )

I personally have an Obama ‘08 bumper sticker (along with about 15 other ones, no exaggeration) on the back of my VW Beetle. I’ve been noticing an increasing amount of Obama stickers on cars. I haven’t seen a single one for any of the Republican candidates, or Hillary. The only other dem sticker I’ve seen is for Edwards. Obama stickers abound!

I don’t really understand how all the pontificating, pointless, putrid pundits keep declaring Hillary the winner of all the debates when Senator Obama keeps coming up with great statements like the one he makes in this clip:

I don’t think Hillary is NEARLY as popular as all of the “polls” (said with greatly emphasized air quotes) say she is. I think Republicans want people to think she is the only choice for the dem nomination because Obama SCARES THE CRAP out of them. I think once the primaries start to roll in, she will get taken down a few pegs. I think Obama, with his astounding honesty, clarity, vision, integrity and trustworthiness, is going to blow her out of the water once people actually get into that voting booth. We need someone who can unite the country. It would make NO SENSE whatsoever to nominate someone who will lose. And she will. Too many people hate her guts going into it. Too many DEMOCRATS can’t stand her.

Where are all your bumper stickers, Hill, hmmm??

ROVE IS GONE! I can’t believe it! Happy Day!!

August 13, 2007 at 5:34 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , )

On one hand, yay, the architect of evil, the slippery son of satan, the brain behind the bush is gone. On the other hand, I’m sure that just because he’s not holding a technical position in the cabinet, doesn’t mean he won’t still be lurking in the shadows fixing elections and doctoring emails.

Once a Bushie always a Bushie. It’s like trying to leave a street gang. And I don’t see Bush and Cheney and Condi and Gonzo getting together and beating Rove out of their little gang.

But, still, it’s nice to know that the administration is crumbling under its own weight.

Years ago when Bush got reelected, I was crushed. I went to class at FAU. It was one of my favorite teacher’s classes, Dr. Caputi. She saw my stricken face and said, “Don’t you worry. They will hang themselves in the end.” And she was right.

Oh Mr. Clive Owen, you are just beautiful…

August 6, 2007 at 5:37 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

Man oh man. I first saw Clive Owen in Beyond Borders. With Angelina (see previous posts about my first girl love.) That movie had a profound effect on me. No one saw that movie, which is a shame; it’s really good. A little heavy-handed, a lot depressing, but good. I was already nuts about Angie at that point. That film introduced me to Clive Owen. I just watched Inside Man and it all came screaming back to me.

If you don’t know who Clive Owen is, and you consider yourself an air-breathing, blood-pumping female (or gay male, I guess, who am I to exclude them from the fun?), then you MUST…MUST…sit down with Inside Man, Beyond Borders and King Arthur and get yourself acquainted with one of the most delicious, talented, sexy men in movies today. The eyes, the weather-beaten face, the body, the accent… it’s all so very very good.

I think it’s his voice that does the most damage. That growling, intense, undercurrent of a voice that just slinks out of him. How can someone’s voice amp up their sexuality THAT much? I can’t quite wrap my addled little brain around it, but it does. Listening to him is like (I imagine) getting phone sex without the fees. It is impossible for me to listen to him talk, especially in Inside Man, and NOT imagine that voice beside me in the dark.

“Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer

August 6, 2007 at 1:19 am (Uncategorized) (, , , )

Well, two great books in a row. The first was called “North River” by Pete Hamill. The second is Twilight. It’s in the teen section, which I was a little wary of at first, but it’s gotten such great reviews, I thought I would give it a try.

This book is WONDERFUL. Not only is it a vampire novel, which is cool in and of itself, but it’s a story that brings me back to the BEST parts (and, really, let’s face it, there weren’t that many great parts) of high school. It’s full of the electric energy of young love, of the confusion and excitement and elation and uncertainty of it all. Meyer doesn’t talk down to her readers. She thinks they have a rather large vocabulary, which is why I think I love this book so much. It doesn’t feel like it is being aimed at teenagers. Anyone can pick up this book and appreciate Bella and Edward and the other characters for who they are, even if they are 17. The descriptions are vivid and real. The suspense is palpable. The main character is thoroughly likeable and endearing. And, her love interest is described in aching detail. I’m 30 and it made me feel slightly unhinged.

Overall, it’s worth checking out. I’m really excited to read the other two in the trilogy.
